As a dual doctorate (DDS, MD) oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Akin manages a wide variety of concerns relating to the jaws and teeth. Dr. Akin practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with specific expertise in dental implant surgery, dental bone grafting and wisdom tooth removal. He has performed thousands of dental implant procedures and has developed a technique of minimally invasive dental implant placement with immediate temporary tooth placement. His first dental implant technique article was published in 2014.
Dr. Akin has developed and taught other specialists his techniques on immediate implant placement, minimally invasive oral surgery and minimally invasive dental implant surgery. In 2016 his ‘Anatomic Harmony Abutment’, or AHA, technique was published in the peer reviewed journal of his specialty, the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His technique addresses a major unsolved problem in posterior, minimally invasive, and immediate implant placement. He has pursued a patent and trademark for this technique.
He focuses, writes, and teaches on immediate dental implant placement, dental implant temporary design, and minimally invasive implant surgery. His practice also incorporates 3D (CBCT) scanning, growth factors and IV sedation to optimize outcomes while maximizing patient recovery. Dr. Akin lectures nationally and internationally on all topics related to dental implants with a specific focus on immediate dental implants and temporaries on implants placed the same day.
Dr. Akin also teaches 4 times per year at the Pankey Institute, which is a non-profit, post-doctoral environment for dental professionals with an emphasis on work-life balance.
