That's why so many of our students return to the Institute over and over,
taking Courses and Special Studies courses over stretches of many years. The
sum total is always greater than the parts here.
Components of the pre-2008 curriculum will be offered simultaneously with the New Pankey Curriculum through 2009. If you are part way through the pre-2008 Continuum, you can blend easily into the new curriculum within a 2-year period. You can move forward without missing course material or having to take "more" core courses than you would have if we had not made changes.
The Registration Department will be happy to provide you with information based on the last Continuum level you completed. The following Continuum courses are being offered in 2008:
Continuum Level II-E
Altering Occlusion Function and Esthetics
Vision to Reality, Equilibration, Esthetic Treatment Planning
Sunday 12:00 Noon through Wednesday 1:00 PM
37 AGD Lecture and Participation Credits
Tuition: Before June 2009 $4,420 After June 2009 $4,675
Upcoming Schedule: 11/30-12/3/08, 02/1-4/09
After attending the first two Continuum levels, the importance of the New Patient exam and functional esthetics will be clear. What may not be so clear is how to undertake occlusion changes with confidence.
Predictable Occlusion
Often, there is little understanding of how the occlusal changes will impact the function and parafunction of the patient. After C2E, you will have the ability to predictably alter occlusion through visualization and planning.
Your Ideal Practice
We will also begin to look at your practice vision and how you communicate it. We'll help you decide what your ideal practice looks like, and lay out a plan that will bring you to the threshold of that vision.
Living your dream practice will create happiness and satisfaction for you, your staff and your patients.
Communicating Well
In C2E, we'll also look at your communication skills. Are you welcoming patients or driving them away? How do patients perceive your office, staff and you? Communication is a critical part of having a spectacular and flourishing practice.
You'll also learn:
- Whether Equilibration is always a "take away" procedure and when it's contraindicated
- Which is best - Equilibration, Restorative or Ortho?
- When can vertical dimension be altered and when must it not be?
- About lack of space at maximum intercuspation and opening vertical dimension.
- Why composites break off and provisionals break loose.
- How to know what changes the patient will tolerate before completing the case.
- Whether implants change the approach to occlusion.

Continuum Level IV
Posterior Restorative Considerations
The Final Stage of the Restorative Riddle and Increasing Case Acceptance
Through Communication
Sunday 12:00 Noon through Wednesday 1:00 PM
37 AGD Lecture and Participation Credits
Tuition: Before June 2009 $4,760 After June 2009 $4,675
Upcoming Schedule: 7/13-16/08; 9/14-17/08; 10/19-22/08**; 3/1-4/09
** Class is Full
In the C4, you'll continue to coalesce your substantial skills and knowledge.
Participants find they've made terrific progress by this point, and are eagerly defining and redefining the practice of their dreams.
C4 continues to assist by providing not only technical information, but financial and behavioral assistance as well.
Solving the Behavioral Riddle
Many dentists find that, as their technical capabilities increase, they become more aware of the behavioral differences presented by each patient.
While the solution to the technical riddle may be clearly and easily visualized, the behavioral one remains puzzling.
In C4, we'll focus on both riddles as we discuss occlusion, sequential treatment planning, comfortable, long-lasting posterior restorations, and how to make connections in a very real way between what you see and what the patient says, feels and experiences.
Once made, that connection creates the ownership vital to success.
The Technical Riddle
The posterior considerations discussed in C4 represent the last piece of the technical riddle; understanding this will free you to begin solving the behavioral riddle to a higher degree and with greater confidence.
The Financial Riddle
C4 will also focus on personal and practice finance and investment. Having a financially healthy practice allows you the freedom to treat and diagnose patients in a way that not only addresses their needs but desires too.
You'll also learn:
- Whether a condylar inclination of 20 degrees means safety in all movements.
- How to start anterior guidance on the posterior teeth.
- How to guide your practice in the direction you want it to go.
- Planning for the future.
- Helping patients understand and accept dental treatment.
